Dr. Richardson is from Indianapolis, Indiana and a graduate of Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, IN. She began her optometric career practicing in Manhattan, New York City but relocated to Houston where her significant other works for a technology company. She is a resident of the Downtown neighborhood and frequently walks to work although her patients tell her: walking is for NYC, Texans drive!
Dr. Richardson understands living in the digital age presents unique challenges for our eyes. Vision encompasses more than just a prescription and Dr. Richardson spends time understanding your personal visual demands. She treats patients as individuals and provides a personalized eye care experience tailored to their needs. She knows firsthand how an evolving world requires evolving eye care. Her patient treatment arsenal includes the latest optometric technologies including digital device lenses, computer progressive options, and blue light protection to ensure comfortable and clear vision even after staring at screens all day.
Dr. Richardson has been in the optometric field for 5 years and specializes in Therapeutic Optometry, LASIK surgery co-management, and contact lenses. Dr. Richardson’s professional interests include Digital Eye Strain, Dry Eye Disease, and learning about the latest contact and spectacle lens developments. She is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, a member of the Texas Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and National Optometric Association.
Outside of the office, Dr. Richardson is a yoga instructor who thoroughly enjoys practicing and teaching yoga for both private and corporate clients. As a former Indiana University cheerleader, Dr. Richardson is a die-hard Hoosier. She enjoys watching IU sports, especially the IU Cheer Program as they recently captured their 5th National Championship in six years. Dr. Richardson’s other interests include yoga retreats, documentaries, museums, traveling, and living a conscious + sustainable lifestyle.
A native Houstonian, Dr. Van Nguyen graduated from the University Of Houston College Of Optometry. Dr. Nguyen joined the Texas State Optical family in 2014 and is very excited to be working at the Downtown office. She has been in the Optometry Field for 10 plus years. Dr. Nguyen is a Therapeutic Optometrist and Glaucoma Specialist with special interests in Dry Eye and Ocular Surface Diseases. She enjoys educating her patients about their eyes. “Eyes are very interesting”, Dr. Nguyen states, which is why she made Optometry her field of choice! She is fluent in Vietnamese and able to perform eye examinations in Spanish.
Outside of work, Dr. Nguyen thoroughly enjoys doing volunteer work, arts and crafts, baking and reading. She is also very talented at making paper flowers and crocheting. She is the youngest with two older brothers and is very family oriented. When Dr. Nguyen has free time, she loves to spend it with her niece and family.
A native Texan, Linda Matocha grew up just south of Houston in Freeport, TX. She did her undergraduate work at University of Houston and graduated from the University Of Houston College Of Optometry in 1985. After working for an HMO in Houston for 4 years, Dr. Matocha joined the TSO family in November 1989 at the Memorial City location. She joined the Museum District TSO team in the fall of 2013 and Downtown TSO in 2017. Dr. Matocha now splits her time between Memorial City TSO, Museum District TSO and Downtown TSO.
Dr. Matocha is a therapeutic optometrist who practices full-scope optometry, including comprehensive eye examinations, all types of contact lens fittings, dry eye treatment and co-management of LASIK and cataracts. Memorial City TSO, Museum District TSO and Downtown TSO carry over 750 frames and sunglasses in the latest styles to meet all patient’s needs.
She and her husband Hal, a native Houstonian and petroleum Landman, moved from the suburbs to the Museum District area in 2006. Avid sports fans, they support the Houston home teams in baseball, football, basketball and soccer. They combined their love of travel and sports by visiting every major league baseball team’s stadium. In 2005, they finished this quest. They then worked on seeing the Astros in every team’s stadium, finishing that quest in Oakland in 2015. Together, Dr. Matocha and Hal have also been to all 50 states in the U.S. To keep balanced, they also enjoy the musicals at the Hobby Center and spending time with their very large extended family.

Here at Texas State Optical, Mel absolutely enjoys helping the patients. Mel states that when Frame Styling, she builds a relationship with each and every patient. She loves learning about everyone and learning from her customers. She has great experience, always comes in with a positive attitude and is fluent in Spanish. A great contributor to the team, Mel helps with frame ordering, assisting the patients as well as insurance filing. Mel’s proudest accomplishment is her children as well as finishing her first half marathon within her goal of 2 hours. Mel enjoys a variety of interests outside the office she enjoys working out at the gym, (which is a good thing since her favorite comfort food is chili cheese fries) she makes it a point to spend time at Little League as a loving mother, she enjoys episodes of her favorite show, “The Walking Dead”; when the young ones are put to bed, she loves spending time with her family, competing in BBQ Cook-off’s and of course running! Her favorite childhood memory is the road trips she took to Seattle, Tampa and all around Mexico. Mel has two favorite quotes below, that she holds near and dear to her heart

“My job provides a scope of patient interaction that I enjoy, in a field I want to make my career and that makes it so much more worth going to.” says Evette who has such a passion for the eye care field. Evette is a fast learner with an abundance of customer service experience, fluent in both English and Spanish as well as very friendly with a go-getter attitude. Evette’s proudest accomplishments include completing a semester in college, pursuing her degree as well as being hired on with Texas State Optical. Outside of work, Evette loves going to the beach, she enjoys bike rides at the park or a simple job and let’s not forget just relaxing! “My favorite childhood memory is when my grandfather so kindly played dolls with me whenever I asked.” says Evette. Irish poet and playwrighter, Oscar Wilde has written Evette’s favorite quote below:

As a child, during the summer, Breanne and her family would spend warm Saturday afternoons at AstroWorld! “It was the best place in Houston, Texas.” Breanne expresses. “My favorite part was the Looney Tunes characters that would walk and dance around the park.” Breanne is extremely friendly, always walking around with a big smile on her face whom has a very warm laughter. Breanne provides Downtown Texas State Optical’s patients with exceptional customer service. Interacting with patients is Breanne’s favorite aspect of her job. “Knowing that I can help someone and be of value makes my job of such importance to me.” Outside of the office, Breanne enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones and to go shopping! “My proudest accomplishments are being a devoted big sister and an Aunty.” says Breanne. Jeanice’s career goal is to grow and understand different positions in the Optical field. Her major is Business in college, therefore she hopes to have a better understanding of “behind the scenes” in the optical industry. Although Jeanice has big interests in the Business aspect, she thoroughly enjoys the patient interaction. “I enjoy assisting our patients or people in general!” says Jeanice, “I want to help them with what they need that contributes to their daily lives.” Jeanice is not only extremely helpful to Downtown TSO’s patients, she is a great team member, always happily willing to assist her co-workers when in need. Outside of work, Jeanice loves eating out at new restaurants that have different cultural foods as well as trying new delicious pastries. “It’s very enjoyable to take friends and family along on my food journeys.” Jeanice is both fluent in English and Spanish. Jungkook from seven-member South Korean boy band BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, speaks Jeanice’s favorite quote below:

Being a part of TSO has given Kandra the privilege of gaining knowledge about patients and their vision care needs. Kandra wants to advance in the Optical field to better educate herself as well as Downtown Texas State Optical’s patients on what is most suited for them. Building relationships and connecting with patients is something she takes pride in. Kandra looks forward to continuing to meet new patients and their families. Kandra’s proudest accomplishment is being a mother. Outside of work, she thoroughly enjoys reading and baking! A childhood memory she holds close is trips she use to take to Louisiana where she would visit her family. American novelist and writer of “The Color Purple”, as well as poet and activist, Ms. Alice Walker holds Kandra’s favorite quote below:
